Oh how I love BREAD! (and desserts). At first, I didn’t quite get what my hubby was fussing about, kept going on and on about these lovely little buns from Komugi at Sunway Pyramid, until I tried one the other day. My, they are really heavenly tasty! Soft in texture, moist in most cases, and they come with quite some variety (with cute names to go with each too *_^). These are a few that we had. LOVE them all.
Don’t know why, there were less pictures took with my iphone than pictures taken with my camera. Perhaps I was caught up with using the camera these days for the blog:)) But my usual routine would still be browsing through the pictures I follow on IG. Love all of them as they are the windows to my world beyond where I am currently based. So nice and refreshing to see things from others’ perspectives. Hope you had a great week, and an awesome week ahead! I love my sky from my window. They seem whimsical at times.
Stay cool and happy, all the time.
The peppermint tea was still simmering, my conversation with Jimmy continued. It was a relaxing Sunday afternoon after all. What’s important in the process of making clothes? Jenn, believe it or not, sampling is actually crucial. It’s like your prototype. … Continue reading
A new discovery, I love the FLIPBOARD, the free magazine app for mobile devices like ipad. It is so sleek and easy to read and browse. Like polyvore, once you have created your account on Flipboard, you can simply +Flipit and add any articles, posts, videos or images you love, or would love to read into your own magazine! Naturally, you can create as many magazines as you like. Great contents.
You can find lumi on FLIPBOARD too, by just searching for “luminnej” or “Jennifer Liew”. I currently have two magazines for now. Click on the luminnej one to view the blog on your ipad.
What great discovery! I personally believe that one must discover and learn ONE new thing each day, in life, for that’s the secret to be a better person, every single day. Love life, love yourself. I hope you have made a new discovery today *_^
I am not a morning person, but I can choose to be, if I want to. That’s the beauty of waking up earlier in the morning, you get a glimpse of what nature sees in you, and you see in her, in return. She whispers into my ears, I run after her shadows. I pluck the soft pink petals on the branches with my mind, the sun shows her morning glow, piercing through those dancing leaves, teasing me, wanting me to follow her more. I am but an observer, beneath this naked early morning sky. I love my world, I love my life, this very morning. I wish you have that same love, in yours, or even more, than I do. LOVE and PEACE
Contemplating and looking at how new things have come along, and how I can re-work on on-going things to bring it to another level. Life is strange, perhaps one needs to let go a little to see what new discoveries will come back. Maybe holding on too tight is not a good thing after all. Let it flow… like water, my friend. That was what Bruce Lee said in his interview in a Discovery Channel documentary called I AM BRUCE LEE (Love it!). I love this guy, I love his passion for life, I love his style, his confidence and most of all, I love his intellectuality and his determination to succeed and be a better person, each day. He is now, my new HERO. I salute you, Bruce Lee. No wonder, you are such a legend as your spirit lives on, till this day. Fighting, Jenn!
Been meaning to share this for some time. This was what I cooked the other night for dinner. Though it may (not) look appetizing, but apparently, black fungus is very good for detoxifying our blood and helps maintain good health for our kidney (I love these). So, no harm eating some “black”/ dark coloured food for our meals. I made mushroom soup from white button mushrooms (with potatoes) and it turned out black! (but it was really creamy, thick and delicious, my hubby will vouch for me *_^) So, I called this dinner “Black Dinner”. I also fried egg with bitter gourds (which are never my sons favourite!). Nonetheless, not that important if it’s healthy, no? Haha. Better be healthy than be choosy!
Since we are on the subject of food, this was what we ate for breakfast yesterday, on a Sunday morning at Damansara Perdana. Since we moved away from there, my son, Aidan has been craving for TK Chong’s Chicken Hor Fun. Finally, we had a chance to go there, but we both realized that it tasted a little different than previously. After talking to the owner, only then we found out why. Apparently, the group of workers who used to prepare the dishes were no longer working there. At times, cooking is very uniquely “individualized”. Even though you may be given the same ingredients, each person’s cooking will come out tasting very different. This is one of my favourite FOOD BLOGS. It’s called My New Roots by Sarah Britton. She has amazing organic and healthy food recipes on her blog. Worth checking out! Here for more.
Over a hot cup of peppermint tea at CoffeeStain by Joseph (here for more) at Parkamaya on a cosy Sunday afternoon, I sat down with my fashion designer friend, Jimmy Lim, after so many years. You know, at times, you have friends whom you only get a chance to meet once in a blue moon (or bumped into occasionally), yet, each time your encounter with them, it hit a deep chord in your heart and you can just picked up from where you left off, no fuss, no elaborate mundane chats, but real talks, and you are “old friends”, all over again, just that simple. I have a few of such friends and Jimmy is definitely one of them. We first met way back in 2007, when we were fresh out, just started our own production company, PATJENN FILM, and mifa8 Fashion Forward was our very first TV Program that we had the pleasure to work on, and that was where I met Jimmy. Co-incidentally, that was also his very first Malaysian come-back fashion show that he did, for he has long since resided and established a name in New Zealand with his self titled fashion label, and has already won many internationally acclaimed awards then! We hit it off straightaway and talked about anything and everything. Here are some snippets of our conversation:
How was it being back here in Malaysia now? It’s been crazy busy, one thing after another, Jenn! First the move from New Zealand, then comes the KLIF (Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2013), Fahrenheit88 Pop-up Store right after, and now my new outlet opening at Parkamaya! I have also started stocking up at Bangsar Telawi 2, can you believe it? Things happened so fast since I came back. It’s crazy busy but nice kinda crazy. (He has a huge grin on his still boyish-looking face). What made you decide to come back, really? Gosh, you know I have been based in New Zealand for the longest time, I love it there, honestly. It has been great but travelling back and forth between these two places, gradually takes a toll on me. I am neither here, nor there. At times, it’s hard for people to reach me. We are, in a very people oriented kind of business, your clients, your media friends, they all need to be interacting with you, it’s your personal touch and service that matter, so I decided it’s time for me to come back to Malaysia. As you age, Jenn, your heart seems to yearn for something more meaningful, and one of it , is being back home to your roots, closer to your culture. Funny enough though, it was that one odd incident that pushed me to actually make that shift in mind. (What was that? My eyes wide opened. I was so excited to find out what actually made Jimmy come to that life-turning point decision he recently made) It was when I was watching this Singaporean movie by Michelle Chong, called ALREADY FAMOUS. One of the scenes, the old lady character said, “If you don’t get to do what you love, what would be the meaning of life? And Longevity will be utterly meaningless”. It struck me, at that instant. How true! It triggered me to just follow my heart, to come back to Malaysia, to be in Asia. Partly, it also has to do with Dato Jimmy Choo, whom I met few years back in London. He was the first person who told me, I should bring my business and beyond, expand it in Asia! That was what I remembered. Now, I am back here, and I have never been happier. What does the Jimmy Lim brand represent? There are three elements to my design. It is always functional, with added elements of tradition and sportiness. I have always believed that fashion has to be function and wearable. To me, fashion is not real until it is worn. Fashion has to make sense to people on the streets, people who are living their lives and people who are, ultimately your clients wearing your designs and clothes. That’s crucial for me. It only make sense. Having said that, I do have high admiration for designers who make couture their fashion vision. I absolutely salute that part of the passion, totally!
Our chat went onto something more personal, at times wicked, but never boring. Stay tuned to this space for part 2 of our peppermint tea conversation! For more of Jimmy’s award-winning work and background, do check out the official website here.
Stay luminous and be fabulous! You can get your fix of Jimmy’s high casual ready to wear pieces now @ Parkkayama, Fahrenheit88, 3rd Floor and SeeThrough Concept Store at Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar. Happy shopping!
I had been very busy last Sunday afternoon, mainly because I was meeting up with my very first personality, whom I will be featuring for FACES very soon. Do you have an idea who that may be? Do these pictures give you any hint at all? Stay tuned for this space to find out who this fashion designer is! I am very excited. Can’t wait to work on this very special post >_<
“Girls just want to have fun!”, Cyndi Lauper sang long long time ago, yet it still rings so true till today (no matter how “young” you are). This is my fun. Victoria’s Secret Kissable Whipped Body Creme (here for more). This one is very special to me, as it was a gift to me when my hubby went on a US work trip, I use it only on special occasions *_^ Kanebo Blanchir Superior Moisturizer (here for more). I like this for its light texture. Can’t get enough of this. This is a serum which I go to, for some anti-aging solution. Love my Nukin Ageloc Future Serum (here for more) as it works on a cellular level to combat signs of aging. I would slather on a little of Young Blood Mineral Primer (here for more) before my foundation. It does help to prime the skin and I adore the clear fluid. Besides, it’s healthy with no harmful chemicals (this has become more important to me as I age). Bobbi Brown lip balm to protect my lips (here for more). Most of all, an SPF50+, PA++ Sun Shades sunblock for my everyday sun protection from Melaleuca (here for more). This is nice because it is light and does not leave my skin feeling sticky (which I can’t stand). This is what I am using for now, perhaps I may try something new next time? Will see.
What’s your beauty fun? Share with me, if any. Would love to know.
