NARS Has Arrived In Malaysia!

nars deco4 smaller

I personally love the deco of the NARS boutique! Has that very futuristic vibe to it.

nars deco1 smallerI was actually counting down the days the moment I got my invite approved by NARS from USA (via NARS Malaysia), to the opening party by this cult cosmetics brand! Blessed indeed that LUMINNEJ is a part of this special occasion. I was real excited, to say the least. Thanks a million.

nars collage1Very quickly once the registration for the guests was opened, the invited guests were slowly arriving. It was still a breeze for me to check the new boutique out upon my arrival, but MY OH MY, in less than 10 minutes, the nicely lit and decorated brand new outlet (just next to Topshop at Pavilion KL) was soon swamped with guests all dressed in BLACK, looking so chic!! Suddenly, the place was jam-packed with NARS enthusiasts (from fashion editors, actress, celebrities, beauty queens, make-up artists, hair stylists to ardent supporters of the brand and many others). Such a happening event.

nars collage5

So much to choose from! SOS, need help *_^

nars collage3

The NARS boutique is officially opened with the cake cutting ceremony

NARS Malaysia made it a point to see that it was indeed going to be the talk of the town. DJ Patricia Knudsen was pumping out some real cool house music (isn’t she looking sweet?), most could not contain their excitement any further, but tried out the products by doing colour swatching, some had their make-up done by the make-up artistes there (me included!), on standby. I was just having a great time snapping pictures away and catching up with some old friends (and making new ones ^_^)

nars collage2

Lovely ladies. Girls just want to have fun, when it comes to make-up. No?

Do you noticed how I went with a red lips, and after the magic touch of the make-up artist, I had a burgundy lips and a more even complexion?

Do you notice how I went with a red lips, and after the magic touch of the make-up artist, I had a burgundy lips and a more even complexion instead?

The event was emceed by the lovely Bernie Chan, and some of the celebrity guests were Shafinaz, Thanuja, Natasha Hudson (and her cute daughters), Elaine Daily, Vanessa Chong, Debbie Goh, Carey Ng, Amber Chia, among others.  Like most girls I happened to chat with, we shared the same dilemma, not knowing what to buy or choose, simply because we were spoilt by so many choices of shades, textures, and lovely products!  It was truly a happening event! I  had a blast. If you want to know what I have bought, stay tuned. For you fans out there (we all know you want it!), more of NARS here or stay more up-to-date at their facebook page here. Better still, head down to Pavilion KL now to shop >_<

[Instagram] Exciting Past Few Weeks

insta collage8The past few weeks had been great! At LUMINNEJ, we were invited to a few events –  h2O+ ambassadress and ambassador/new product launch, NARS very first boutique opening at Pavilion KL. For my production work, we got a chance to work with the hip hop rapper Joe Flizzow for a music video of the latest installment of local director Brando Lee’s film, Kisah Paling Gengster. Personally, my sister-in-law came back from UK for a visit (and I got my  early X’MAS present delivered!) and we had a good time (mainly eating >_<) with the family. Everyone came together.

giftLife is short, I have learnt it the hard way recently, after losing someone I loved very deeply and dearly. I made it a point to tell myself, to do the things that make me happy, or get me one step closer to my dreams, no matter how small that step maybe, or how insignificant it may seem. The rest, the universe will take care of itself. Surround myself with good company and enjoy the time. It is always a blessing to be able to live, just another day.

We truly appreciate all the support given to LUMINNEJ here, be it our readers, our friends (near or far), or even the clients and brands that have given us the opportunity to be featured and work together with, share the joy and love for all things beautiful, through this little space of ours. Thanks to you all! Some exciting events coming up next too, and we can’t wait for it to take place. Big hugs ^_^

[Faces] RMK Make-up Maestro Mr. Masaaki Abe (Japan) Believes In Natural Beauty

RMK brochure chat withRMK makeup bookletsTruly excited I was to be able to have a face-to-face chat with the make-up professional himself, Mr. Masaaki Abe (all the way from Japan!) for RMK. Of course, with the help of our friendly interpreter, Mr. Cheong and the kind arrangement by Minda from RMK Malaysia.*_^

RMK is a Japanese brand which has its roots within the New York make-up artistry, but focuses on bringing across its cosmetics and skincare products from the laboratories in Japan itself. With RMK’s philosophy of “Revealing the best and most beautiful you!”, Mr. Masaaki talked to me recently what he thinks of make-up and what beauty truly means to him. Calm, collected, very soft spoken and well-mannered, Mr. Masaaki, in all black, is actually very friendly and answers all the questions I threw at him, with great ease and passion. I could tell his deep rooted love for the art itself. Perhaps it’s the RMK products which he has been using (he has been with RMK for more than 4 years now), his face is glowing and has a skin as smooth as a baby! (Really, no joke ^_^). I quickly asked him which is his favourite skincare product from RMK, he gladly revealed to me (will let you in the secret at the end of this post, be patient). This is what we talked about (in essence of course, as we spoked a great deal that beautiful day!)

How did you get involved with beauty and make-up? Well, it was way back in my high school time. Whenever I was free, I would love to see how women put on their make-up, and eventually, I went onto making women beautiful by doing their make-up! It is the joy of seeing women shine beautifully, after applying make-up that I realized this was where I want to be – to make each and every woman feel beautiful, in their own way. It makes me happy to see them happy.

RMK BoardsWhat does the RMK brand stand for? RMK is a strong believer in natural beauty and enhancing a women’s beauty through our cosmetics, our brand has that very New York feel, current and fresh but with a Japanese approach to make-up. We are famous for our base make-up and natural finishing products, among others.

What’s the uniqueness of the latest RMK Autumn/Winter 2013 Make-up Collection? With this palates, we focus on the eye make-up. The texture is very smooth, creamy with strikingly mute earthy colours but also very wearable and easy to blend with the pearl-like ingredients in the shadows. You don’t have to be a professional to apply and still achieve the polished look. It is also about layering those colours together to create a harmonious effect for your eyes. Finish the look with a hint of pink blush and lipstick with glossy lip gloss and that’s all you need to look pretty. Of course, load up with our award-winning mascara to complete the look!

RMK masaaki in session7Due to the Korean trend, it is such a huge impact that Korean make-up has on women today, how is Japanese make-up different from the Korean make-up? Korean make-up tend to focus on creating the cat-eye look, and very glowing skin, for Japanese, you will notice that Japanese girls like to make their eyes look BIG (simply because we Japanese men love big eyes girls) with eye make-up and put on a more pinky rosy cheeks. As for the face, it is more with a natural finish. Then again, make-up is very personal, it is about your own creative expression. There is no right or wrong to it.

RMK products collageI was told by some make-up artists that BB cream may not be a good thing for everyone. Is that so? First of all, one must understand the function of a BB cream. It is a combination of skincare and make-up product in one. Of course, it is convenient to just use one product to prepare your face, and cut down your make-up time, but we believe that your skin needs a protective barrier after your skincare application, before your make-up, so that your make-up can also stay on longer. Applying a thin layer of base before your actual foundation application is an important step.

I have combination skin and make-up tend to not last long, how do I overcome such predicament? Well, you are living in a humid and tropical place, there is no such foundation or make-up that will last hours and hours without needing any sort of touch up at all. You will just need to be a little “hardworking” and do some minor touch-up here and there, as and when you need to.

What is beauty, to you, as a make-up artist? Beauty? There is no absolute beauty in life. It is the little imperfection in you that makes you beautiful. Like how RMK believes, let your natural beauty shine through, with the little help of make-up. That is beauty to me. Don’t go all out of your way to be perfectly beautiful. That is not beauty.

If you were not a make-up artist today, what would you be? Wow, that’s a good question… (he thought and thought hard for quite a while) Seriously, I have never thought about it that way. I guess I would still be a make-up artist, one way or the other. (He ended that with a grin on his charming-looking face)

That thought of Mr. Masaaki on beauty really hit a chord in me. Honestly, I was like a novice and a humble student trying to learn as much as possible from the expert. Mr. Masaaki was never weighed down by my seemingly endless questions! In fact, he answered them all with such enthusiasm and seriousness that I truly admire and appreciate (for spending his time with me). I guess the best thing I got out of talking with him, is that not taking make-up too seriously and just embrace the best part of me. It was such fun talking to him. Thanks again! Sensei! Arigato, Abe San.

Oh right, I almost forgot. This is his secret to “almost”-perfect-looking skin (now we  know!). If you would like to know more about his tips and tricks to achieving a dewy look, do check out my previous RMK workshop post here. For more on RMK, do check out their website here.

A Blue Christmas Gift from SENKA

senkaproduct1This year’s Christmas came so much earlier for me. I was pleasantly surprised that I received an email saying that LUMINNEJ will be receiving an early seasonal present from SANTA! Best of all, they even played Santa and the special gift was to be delivered to my doorstep (Wow, what a treat indeed). As promised, the gift was swiftly delivered to me the next day. A blue red striped box with a big red polka-dot ribbon was right in front of me. I was really excited to see what’s inside this lovely box!

senkaproduct2Upon opening, the two products were quickly revealed. It’s a Christmas gift from SENKA, a sister brand of Shiseido!  Marvelous indeed. Love the wrapping, love the look of the two products. What I got were one Perfect Gel and one Perfect Oil, both are actually make-up remover (after I briefly went through the write-up). I am looking forward to trying out these products and see how they perform. Do stay tuned for more soon. Meanwhile, you can check out more of Senka’s product here.

senkaproduct3Thanks again, SENKA for the lovely gift. I couldn’t have asked for more. Christmas has just become extra special this year! Hope you all are gearing up for the special occasion too. Stay luminous and have a joyous occasion with family and friends.

The Beautiful World of Aerin

aerin1Can style be cultivated? Or it comes from a family with acute sense of beauty that is equivalent to effortless luxury which is transferred down (wired in the genes), I wonder? But I guess it takes a keen eye to “see” what is there, and at times, not there, but understand the aesthetics of what beauty is all about. But then again, everyone has different interpretation and understanding of what beauty is. But I truly believe everyone is somehow attracted to all things BEAUTIFUL in life, and all its aspects – design, arts, music, fashion, film, and other forms of creative work. Beauty is definitely in the eyes of the beholder (and is pretty subjective).

Aerin2Aerin3The moment I ventured into Aerin’s website, I am absolutely captivated by the way it is designed, its layout, the fonts used, its soft pastel colour(s) scheme and its beautiful images. I am a very VISUAL person, I am totally in love with it. Kudos to the team behind it! Of course, am sure it is the visionary direction of Aerin herself. It is after all, a global lifestyle brand inspired by the signature style of Aerin Lauder (from the family of Estee Lauder). I love her premise of living life beautifully should be effortless, classic with a modern point of view! (all pictures via World of Aerin here).

Aerin4I really believe that beauty is in its simplicity, amidst a world of sophistication. Find your kind of beauty that makes you happy and hold on to it, for it is as precious as air itself, that you are breathing, and that is what keeps us alive, every day, seeing the beauty in things (and people) *_^ Happy happy Wednesday (my favourite day of the week!)

Be luminously beautiful. Be YOU!

[Instagram] So Much Have Gone By

insta collage7It’s been a while since I updated what’s been happening on my IG. Been to a great make-up session with RMK by Japanese make-up artist, Masaaki Abe himself recently, had such great fun, then bought myself a pair of colourful Zara heels! Been addicted to this Korean drama called The Master’s Sun starring the gorgeous looking So Ji Sub and cute Gong Hyo Jin (so, my Wednesday and Thursday nights are off limits, even my TV lover-hubby also stepped aside to let me have my “dating” time with the leads and their ghost friends!). I was extremely excited to also roll out LUMINNEJ very first giveaway, a collaboration with Cle De Peau BEAUTE Malaysia. (Still waiting for entry to pour in *_^) and of course, was invited to attend the inaugural local Mandarin film industry’s Golden Wau Awards 2013 ceremony. There, I met up with new talents, model cum actress Tracy Cheong, among others. It was glamourous indeed.

Am really looking forward to more new things happening with LUMINNEJ and hope to achieve more here, be it making new friends, or working with new partners to share the passion about all things beautiful. Above all, hope to connect with different people out there. A big thanks for all my readers (thought not many yet, at this point, haha but I am grateful) and hope you will stay with me, on this journey of making LUMINNNEJ a better lifestyle blog, each day, everyday, with small little steps, at a time. More on RMK here, Cle De Peau BEAUTE here and The Master’s Sun here.

As always, stay luminous and happy, always!

In The Mood For BLUE

Jen Zara heels collage smallerI immediately fell in love with a pair of Zara heels recently. It has a colourful shades of blue, green and orange. I couldn’t help but bought it, since my all time favourute Fiorucci blue shining heels has worn off (so sad, though I have gotten it fixed couples of times, not wanting to let it go!). I really love that pair of heels as it served me well (through thick and thin *_^). This new pair of Zara one is not too bad as well, though it’s not as comfortable as the Italian brand.

RMK Dewy Make-up Workshop With Masaaki Abe from Japan

RMK products6 smallerIt was a beautiful Sunday morning. I was excited as I was getting prepared and was heading for my very first make-up workshop (all thanks to the good people at RMK Malaysia for the invite!) at Pastis, The Gardens Mall. When it comes to make-up, I am but a novice, so I was anticipating to learn some tips and tricks on how to achieve a dewy make-up look (which I absolutely adore and would love to know how to do myself!) with RMK’s latest Autumn/Winter 2013 Collection. Furthermore, all the participants attending will be personally guided by the make-up maestro himself, Mr. Masaaki Abe, all the way from RMK Japan!

RMK collage product smallerRMK pastis smallerI reached there pretty early, so, I hung out at Pastis for a while and took some pictures. All make-up products and materials were carefully prepared and placed at each table. As I was strolling over to the RMK counter at Isetan, and there I saw the young-looking Mr. Masaaki himself, at the concourse area, with his interpretor for the day, Mr. Cheong. I couldn’t help  myself but to greet them, and we started chatting away, mainly about make-up and what he does. But we had to cut our conversation short as the participants of the workshop had arrived and the workshop needed to be on the way. He humbly excused himself and strolled off. I went back to Pastis and got myself ready for an exciting session.

The charming Mr. Masaaki Abe from Japan, explaining, enthusiastically, interpreted by Mr. Cheong

RMK collage teaching smallerThe session started with Mr. Masaaki introducing RMK the brand and what it stands for and what we will be doing for the workshop. It was divided into two main sections – Basic dewy foundation make-up and Point make-up (using colours especially focusing on the eyes). With such grace and ease, Masaaki explained away how to create that perfect canvas for the face. He emphasized that “Less is more” when it comes to applying foundation and applying a thin layer of base (with big strokes across the face to achieve evenness) is utmost crucial to a perfect make-up staying power. A pink corrector will also help to put back some “colour” onto your face (if it is not pale and dull already before the make-up), elaborated Mr. Masaaki. With experts strokes and touches, the dewy make-up based was completed and participants were given time to try out the method themselves.

RMK masaaki in session4 smallerRMK masaaki in session7 smallerNext, we moved onto point make-up where the latest Autumn/Winter Collection was used, carefully shown by Mr. Masaaki, how easy it was to apply this specially formulated gel type pearl-like pigmented eyeshadow. The eyes instantly popped and brightened the whole face. The award-winning RMK mascara were used after the eyelashes were carefully curled (with a special “pull-down” technique taught by Mr. Masaaki) to achieve the greatest length and volume! I was amazed how different the eyes looked by now, on the model’s face. A flush of pink cheek colour was applied and a gloss completed the whole look. It was simple, yet the finishing look exuded a certain charm and dewiness that had that glow-from-within-kind of make-up look! Amazing indeed. The participants tried on the technique excitedly after that and everyone was having such a great time (with the assistance of some helpful RMK beauty consultants). Some participants even grabbed the chance to take some pictures with the master himself towards the end of the workshop (Me included >_<).

RMK collage pictime smallerAll in all, it was a wonderful experience and I had a great deal of fun as I have learnt so much from him. Do stay tuned for my one-to-one interview (chat) with the master himself, coming up on my FACES segment soon. I can’t wait to share what we have discussed previously. Till then, have a fantastic weekend ahead!

A Rosy and Relaxing Pampering, Cle De Peau BEAUTE Style

Guests can also purchase the skincare and make-up on a special price package on that day. I was simply enjoying the company (and the food), while breathing in all the divinely elegant sights of the rose-theme decor and collection, all thanks to my friends at Cle De Peau BEAUTE. Each of us walked away happy (for all the right reasons) with a gift of a rose in a white vase and a Cle De Peau BEAUTE Enriched Lip Luminizer (lip rouge). Am loving it a lot, using the lip rouge so far. The colour is indeed vivid, but glides on smoothly and feels really gentle to my lips and not drying.

The English Rose of Burberry Prorsum Womenswear Spring Summer 2014

Backstage at the Burberry Prorsum Womenswear Spring_Summer 2014 ShowIf you had seen the Burberry Prorsum Womenswear SS14 runway show, you will be mesmerized by the pastel colours and intricate designs. It is flowy, textured, feminine with a twist of little flowery details worked into the collection (with a touch of polka-dots as well).

burberry the show collageBurberry is a British brand that is well-known for pushing the boundary by incorporating technology and reaching out to its loyal clients all around the world via active participation in social media with their digital campaigns (remember that campaign with Google+,  Burberry Kisses?), In-store technology with fully immersive audio visual experience, and many others. This time around, Burberry even pre-promote their runway show using the brand new iphone 5S even before the product hits the mass market. Smart partnership indeed! I am also one of the many 938,000 (still counting)  followers of Burberry on Instagram, making Burberry one of the most followed brands on this app.

Take a look at some of the celebs who have graced the event and backstage shots. I also love the make-up look of the runway done by Wendy Rowe using Burberry SS14 colours and Burberry pastel nail colours. Hair is simple by Neil Moodie.Burberry guestsBurberry make-up n nail

I also adore that Burberry do actively promote and work with local emerging British artistes and musicians in terms of music used (Burberry Acoustic). The artistes who were featured in the show include George Ezra, Jake Bugg and James Bay. For those die-hard fans of Burberry, you can actually custom-designed your pieces from the collection and have the opportunity to be the first to own next season’s collection, months before it arrives in store. Amazing indeed with its special personalisation tool. I think Christopher Bailey (and his team) is very ingenious. So, what are you waiting for? Check it out here.

Too Cool For School: The New Korean Fix (Part 2) Lumi Favourites

tcfs Displaytcfs9 Dinoplatz mascaratcfs17 makeup pouchMake-up is cool with Too Cool For School. As if the array of make-up and skincare choices are not enough, they even have interestingly designed make-up pouches. I love them.

tcfs0 Blending Cream BBSo, which ones are my favourite Too Cool For School items? All right, I have to admit that I have concerns when it comes to BB Cream! You know how Koreans are famous for their BB Creams (those porcelain polished face, partly BB cream is their secret and now, CC Cream is already in the market!). Why? Simple because I have tried many samples, they never seem to feel right, especially the texture. It always seem too heavy or cakey (or too fair) on my skin. But I was in for a surprise when I tried Too Cool For School’s Blending Cream BB. It glides on ever so smoothly and effortlessly. It fits the skin pretty nicely and the best of all, it does not feel sticky and too heavy for the face to handle >_<

tcfs16 Dinoplatz HighlighterThe other secret to get that “glow”? Dinoplatz Pearl Bay Invasion. (yay!) When you mix a little of this to the BB cream, it instantly gives you that glow. Amazing indeed. These two are some wonder products that I feel you must try to see the results yourself.

tcfs friendsIt was great that I popped by to their boutique at Bangsar (No.11, Ground Floor, Jalan Telawi 3), and you can always visit them there, or Robinsons, The Gardens. You can find them on Facebook too! Hope you will find your glow and awesome COOLNESS with Too Cool For School. Check out Part 1 of the post here.
