Inspiring Creativity, An Artistry That Is Shiseido Professional – Part 1

sa single1This is not my first hair show. I have been to and worked on one many years back. Nothing could have prepared me for something this EXCITING! From the time LUMINNEJ received the invitation (thanks Shiseido Malaysia!) to the event day, I have been waiting, anxiously, can’t wait to set foot at the fabulous Royale Chulan Hotel. The night was finally here. It was Shiseido Professional’s Beauty Innovator Award 2013 – Artistry of Inspiring Creativity! It is the largest cross-cultural hair design photo competition of its kind, bringing together the top hairstyling talents across eight countries – Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.  Impressive indeed.

sa guests collagesa singlesa finalist collage1sa finalist collage2The crowd was sizzling, the food was tantalizing, the wine was dreamy, the prized car (a very colourful one) was definitely tempting! I even had a chance to meet up with some old industry friends like fashion designer Khoon Hooi and fabulous make-up artist, Monica Lee. The work of the top 11 semi-finalists were being displayed. It was interesting to see, how some of the top nation hairstylists came up with their creations, the concepts behind them and what actually influenced and inspired them.

finalist work collage1The competition was steep, to say the least (from over hundreds of entries nationwide). The competing hairstylists had  to impress a panel of esteemed judges who are talented professionals from the industry. This night, the top 5 finalists will be selected, and will be making their way to an all-expense paid trip (thanks to Mayfair) to Japan to attend the Shiseido Professional Beauty Congress to be held in Tokyo this coming February 2014! (How I wish LUMINNEJ can be there too *_^)

finalist work collage2These top 5 winners will be judged, again, by  the panel of Grand Jury comprising of  Shiseido Beauty Top Specialists, Mr. Masa Otake, as well as renowned photographers and designers. Only ONE Grand Prix winner will be chosen and the lucky winner will be driving home an all-new Nissan Almera 1.6, sponsored by Edaran Tan Chong. So nice! Some of the other Choice Awards up for grab included Shiseido Best Makeup Award, NUYOU Choice Award, Estetica Asia Choice Award, Shiseido Professional Popularity Award and H4ufme Choice Award. So, which ones are your favourites?

IMG_5925We were invited to be seated inside the Grand Ballroom as the show was about to begin. The moment I saw the stage, I was absolutely mesmerized by it. Such simple elegance. It has that very clean, simple, old kyoto-Japanese feel, yet being juxtaposed by intriguing visuals. Two big screens on stage, at each side, displaying some of the most vividly colourful and beautiful images of everything Japan – the food, the culture, the city, the landscapes. Extremely beautiful! I was immediately transported to a whole different dream world all together already.IMG_5927IMG_5926

Something interesting is brewing! To find out more about the show, stay tuned to my next blog post! Till then, have a fantastic weekend ahead.

NARS Has Arrived In Malaysia!

nars deco4 smaller

I personally love the deco of the NARS boutique! Has that very futuristic vibe to it.

nars deco1 smallerI was actually counting down the days the moment I got my invite approved by NARS from USA (via NARS Malaysia), to the opening party by this cult cosmetics brand! Blessed indeed that LUMINNEJ is a part of this special occasion. I was real excited, to say the least. Thanks a million.

nars collage1Very quickly once the registration for the guests was opened, the invited guests were slowly arriving. It was still a breeze for me to check the new boutique out upon my arrival, but MY OH MY, in less than 10 minutes, the nicely lit and decorated brand new outlet (just next to Topshop at Pavilion KL) was soon swamped with guests all dressed in BLACK, looking so chic!! Suddenly, the place was jam-packed with NARS enthusiasts (from fashion editors, actress, celebrities, beauty queens, make-up artists, hair stylists to ardent supporters of the brand and many others). Such a happening event.

So much to choose from! SOS, need help *_^

The NARS boutique is officially opened with the cake cutting ceremony

NARS Malaysia made it a point to see that it was indeed going to be the talk of the town. DJ Patricia Knudsen was pumping out some real cool house music (isn’t she looking sweet?), most could not contain their excitement any further, but tried out the products by doing colour swatching, some had their make-up done by the make-up artistes there (me included!), on standby. I was just having a great time snapping pictures away and catching up with some old friends (and making new ones ^_^)

Lovely ladies. Girls just want to have fun, when it comes to make-up. No?

Do you noticed how I went with a red lips, and after the magic touch of the make-up artist, I had a burgundy lips and a more even complexion?

Do you notice how I went with a red lips, and after the magic touch of the make-up artist, I had a burgundy lips and a more even complexion instead?

The event was emceed by the lovely Bernie Chan, and some of the celebrity guests were Shafinaz, Thanuja, Natasha Hudson (and her cute daughters), Elaine Daily, Vanessa Chong, Debbie Goh, Carey Ng, Amber Chia, among others.  Like most girls I happened to chat with, we shared the same dilemma, not knowing what to buy or choose, simply because we were spoilt by so many choices of shades, textures, and lovely products!  It was truly a happening event! I  had a blast. If you want to know what I have bought, stay tuned. For you fans out there (we all know you want it!), more of NARS here or stay more up-to-date at their facebook page here. Better still, head down to Pavilion KL now to shop >_<

H2O+ Revealed Their Latest Ambassadress and Ambassador

reception5 smallerThanks h2O+ Malaysia for inviting LUMINNEJ to be a part of the recent brand spokespersons’ media launch! I arrived at One World Hotel with enormous anticipation, wanting to find out who are the ambassadress and ambassador for this leading global skincare brand in marine science, h2O+. Well, I was in for a surprise!

collage receptionIt kick-started with some light refreshments for the morning and quickly moved onto the lovely emcee of the day starting off the event by introducing the brand. I am aware of the brand for it has been around in Malaysia since 6 years ago, focusing on marine science based in a wide range of skincare that can be personalized to suit individual needs.

collage stageh2O+ recently combined its water concept of sea science with its revolutionary technology to introduce the latest range of Total Source. Now, they have even introduced their latest consumable product called h2O+ Collagen 8000 to help achieve a more hydrated, firmer and younger looking skin inside out as the collagen content is pretty high (8,000mg of hydrolyzed collagen extracted from high quality deep-sea fish, and it is 100% formulated and produced in Japan).

collage spokespersonsSo, the eagerly awaited moment has arrived. The spokespersons were unveiled. They are none other than the popular Hong Kong TV travel host and actress, Priscilla Wong Tsui Ying and the inspiring Malaysian singer actor, Aric Ho. Both of them greeted the audience warmly. With her nice complexion, Priscilla was chatty, with a really down to earth and friendly demeanor, telling the media how fond she is with the brand and some of her favourite products – Face OASIS and TotalSOURCE, while the energetic Aric shared his deep-sea diving experiences and expeditions while working on the Marine Conservative Programme to Save Our Water Planet (helping to build its first artificial reef in Pulau Soyak, off Pulau Tioman!) with the brand.

both1 smallerboth4 smallerBoth bonded very quickly during their previous TVC shoot for h2O+ while she was here in Malaysia. Priscilla’s natural beauty and approachable personality did shine through and is quite infectious. Both artistes kept the media entertained by answering all the questions skillfully. It was a pleasant event after all. We even walked away with a token of a goodie bag with some samples of the h2O+ products *_^

samplesh2O+ skin and body care including the latest Collagen 8000 are available in all h2O+ outlets throughout Malaysia. For more updates on these two celebrities and their marine conservative programme activities, one can follow them on facebook H2OPlusMalaysia here or visit the website here for more of their wide range of skincare products.

Too Cool For School: The New Korean Fix (Part 1)

tcfs12 Displaytcfs19 Lip Studytcfs3 BB Foundation Lunch Boxtcfs14 Dinoplatz Cream EyeshodowTwo words to describe my first impression of the brand – Cool and Creative! When I breezed through Robinsons at the Gardens the other day, what caught my eyes and made me turn back to check out these lovely make-up items at a wood-based monotone-themed counter was in fact its uniqueness. The packaging is very creative and intriguing. After a few chats, the friendly promoter referred me to their brand manager and the next thing I knew, I was invited to visit their boutique at Telawi 3, Bangsar to check out more.

tcfs4 Art Class Blushertcfs7 Egg Mousse SoapTOO COOL FOR SCHOOL, how cool can you get for a cosmetics brand? I was amazed by the variety of make-up items found there. The boutique is spacious, well designed to keep you interested (and perhaps shop more *wink wink*). It is a little like a treasure trove, the more you look at the cosmetics, the more you will fall in love with the art designs of their packaging. This new Korean brand (now available in Malaysia) differentiates themselves from the rest of the Korean brands in the market by not having a particular Korean celebrity attached to it. Check out some of the items found at the boutique.

tcfs store2tcfs collage3tcfs collage2tcfs5 Emma Mini Liptcfs18 Dinoplatz Popup artIn line with the “Doll” theme, one will notice some naked and cute dolls being displayed on the shelves. They really tickle your senses. I find the character driven line cute and very girly. Illustrated by German illustrator Anke Weckman, characters like Sienna (the starry eyed lovely girl), Emma (the Bohemian artist) Joey (the chic fashionista) and Max (the secret cat of Sienna) seem to come alive and call for your attention. My favourite will have to be the Dinoplatz range in terms of the packaging design. I love the white and black, and most of all, the dinosaurs seemingly rampaging across the city full of skyscrapers! Oozing with awesome coolness, don’t you think?

tcfs10 Dinoplatz Pop-up Mascaratcfs11 Dual Eye Shadowtcfs8 Pumpkin Sleeping Packtcfs6 Black Long EyelashesThere’s so much to see (and try out at the make-up counter), if you see what you like, just shop till your heart’s content. They have cute packaging make-up to skincare items like masks and egg mousse soap cleanser, to address different needs. They even have eyelashes and make-up brushes. I  guess the Korean wind is so strong that one can’t seem to resist these days. To see for yourself, check out their boutique at No.11 (Ground Floor), Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru or you can check out their FB page here. You can even shop at the Robinsons, Too Cool For School.

Stay tuned as I will reveal which ones are my favourite Too Cool For School products in my second parter of this post. Till then, stay luminous and COOL *_^

[Faces] The Fashion Forward Designer, Jimmy Lim (Part 2)

The peppermint tea was still simmering, my conversation with Jimmy continued. It was a relaxing Sunday afternoon after all. What’s important in the process of making clothes? Jenn, believe it or not, sampling is actually crucial. It’s like your prototype. … Continue reading
